FORGET NOT ALL HIS BENEFITS (Psalm 103:2)
1. Tell your own soul to remember
“Forget not” is more than good advice; it is a command to one’s own heart. David speaks to himself as if taking his soul by the shoulders and saying, “Remember!” Human nature easily forgets grace and easily remembers pain. Sometimes a small trial can overshadow years of God’s goodness. The first step toward a grateful life is to quiet down and intentionally speak to your soul: Do not forget.
2. Benefits are not accidents
Life is not a chain of lucky events; it is the evidence of God’s hand. From the morning we open our eyes, to the breath in our lungs, the strength to work, the roof over us, the safety of our families—every “ordinary” thing carries the fingerprints of God. What seems common is actually extraordinary mercy renewed every day. Realizing this softens our hearts and humbles our spirits.
3. The greatest benefit: forgiveness
Psalm 103 lists the benefits clearly: He forgives, He heals, He redeems, He crowns with love, He satisfies. The foundation of all blessings is forgiveness. If God counted our sins against us, none could stand. His benefits are not just material or circumstantial; they are deeply spiritual and restorative. Remembering this frees us from guilt and lifts us into renewed joy.
4. Write it down so you won’t forget
Remembering is intentional. David wrote psalms to inscribe God’s goodness into his own soul; we can do the same. Write down the blessings, keep a gratitude journal, or share testimonies in fellowship. Every time we recount His works, grace becomes “alive” again and faith grows stronger. Gratitude doesn’t happen automatically—it grows from the discipline of remembrance.
5. Live one day without forgetting
“Forget not” is an invitation to a way of life—living each day with an awareness that God is active in every detail. When we remember His benefits, complaint turns into thanksgiving; fear turns into trust; discouragement turns into hope. Today, pause for a moment and say: “O my soul, remember what the Lord has done for you.”
