“Jesus wept.” (John 11:35)

One biblical event that has deeply moved and inspired me is Jesus weeping at the tomb of Lazarus (John 11:1–44).

Reflection

What touches me most is not only that Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, but that He first wept.

Jesus already knew the miracle was coming.
He knew death would not have the final word.
Yet, standing before human pain, He did not rush past grief to get to the triumph—He entered into the sorrow with His friends.

“Jesus wept.” (John 11:35)

Those two words reveal something breathtaking:

  • God does not stand far from suffering; He stands in it with us.

  • God does not dismiss our tears just because He has the power to fix what is broken.

  • Compassion is never separate from His miracles—it is the doorway to them.

When He called Lazarus out, He didn’t only raise a man from the tomb—He raised hope from despair, faith from confusion, and worship from heartbreak.

Why it inspires me

  1. God cares about our pain, not just our problems.
He meets the heart before He moves the circumstance.

  2. Tears are not a lack of faith.
Even in grief, Jesus honored mourning before He revealed glory.

  3. His miracles are personal.
He doesn’t say, “Lazarus, if you feel like it,” but calls him by name: “Lazarus, come out!”
God doesn’t do generic rescue—He calls us individually.

  4. The stone must be moved, but the miracle belongs to God.
Jesus told others, “Take away the stone.”
He invites us to move what we can, and trust Him to do what we cannot.

Personal takeaway

Whenever life feels heavy, confusing, or final:

  • Jesus is not puzzled by my pain.

  • He is present before He is powerful.

  • And nothing—no grief, no silence, no sealed stone—is beyond His voice.

A short prayer of response

Lord, teach me to trust Your heart when I cannot trace Your hand.
Thank You for walking into our suffering instead of around it.
Speak into every “tomb” in my life and call hope back to life.
Amen.
