Faith in the Midst of Crisis
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present
help in trouble." — Psalm 46:1
At the end of 1992, our church went through a tragedy that shook us to
the core. The church van was in an accident—our driver lost control, and the
van tipped over. One boy, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was thrown out and
died. Afterward, the church was sued, and eventually we had to declare
bankruptcy. At that time, I was serving as the secretary of the church, and it
was one of the hardest seasons of my life. Everything felt uncertain and out of
control.
Yet, in that dark valley, my faith became the anchor I held onto. Prayer
gave me a place to pour out my fears, and Scripture reminded me that God was
still present even when I couldn’t see the way forward. Instead of being
consumed by worry, I found strength in trusting that He was carrying me
through. Looking back, I realize it wasn’t that the problems disappeared, but
my faith gave me courage and peace to walk through them—one step at a time.
Reflection: When life feels overwhelming, where
do you turn? How can prayer and God’s Word become your anchor in times of
uncertainty?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being my refuge in times of crisis. When everything feels
out of control, remind me that You are still on the throne. Strengthen my
faith, calm my heart, and help me trust that You are carrying me through, step
by step. Amen.
